As part of the events dedicated to the World Day for Safety and Health at Work (April 28), Samotlorneftegaz JSC and Mud Expert LLC held a drill for responding the safety hazards associated with handling of drilling fluid on April 26, 2017 at the Samotlor oil field site (cluster 1310).
During the drill, a readiness of the drilling crews to stop working when detecting a HSE rule violation was assessed, as well as building-up a psychological readiness to monitor their colleagues' work aimed at prevention of a situation that threatens their life and health. The situation was a simulated introduction of caustic soda into drilling mud by an employee without using the necessary PPE. Workers of the InkomNeft OJSC drilling crew immediately noticed the violation and stopped work.
After that, the specialists of the Mud Expert LLC's HSE and quality service additionally informed the workers on specific features of damaging and hazardous factors of chemicals applied in drilling fluids, ensuring safe handling of hazardous substances, and premedical first aid at chemical burns and intoxications.
Also, the drill included checking interaction with medical organizations at evacuation of an assumed injured person.
In general, the experience of such drills should be used when working with other contractors.
